The truck service technician III is responsible for general vehicle maintenance and repair of The Wenger Group's owned vehicles. The role provides a high level of troubleshooting ability to repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

What will you do:

Essential functions:

Ensure adherence to Wenger policies, methods, and disciplines.
Responsible for diagnostic review, repair, and replacements of parts as well as the replacement and installation of equipment
General commercial motor vehicle, commercial tank trailer, and small vehicle repair and maintenance.
Handle on-call duties as scheduled.
Perform routine maintenance on trucks, such as checking batteries and changing oil to ensure proper vehicle running
Inspect various parts of trucks, including brake systems, wheel bearings and steering mechanisms to ensure they are in the proper condition to operate effectively
Use different tools and equipment, such as pressure gauges, pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, screwdrivers, hoists and jacks, to repair trucks while constantly utilizing safety precautions
Diagnose malfunctions in defective equipment by inspecting and testing using devises such as motor analyzers, handheld computers and chassis charts to determine how to address problems
Test drive vehicles to ensure they are running properly and to find issues to determine what the solution will be
Replace parts, valves, bearings and gears as needed and repair vehicle cooling and heating systems
Measure vehicle emissions to ensure they are in the proper limits
Ensure parts conform to factory specifications by inspecting and verifying clearances and dimensions
Other duties as determined by the Supervisor.

Physical Requirements (check if applicable)

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. repeatedly and up to 100 lbs. on occasion
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in high places
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work in dusty conditions

Who are you:

  • Ability to handle heavy objects: tires, springs, brake drums and tools to repair vehicles
  • Ability to work inside tank bins and other confined areas.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights of 15'.
  • General welding skills and ability to work with hydraulics a plus.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area, encouraging safety and efficiency.
  • Accurately and promptly completes all repair related paperwork, to include those related to proper inventory and parts usage.
  • Perform all duties in a professional and safe manner, compliant with all governmental, Wenger Feeds, and Wenger Feeds Garage policies & procedures.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of diesel truck mechanic experience and ability to effectively diagnose and repair motor vehicles.
  • Possession of a valid Class A CDL license is required.
  • Must be able to lift heavy equipment and parts regularly
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be comfortable with working in awkward positions or cramped spaces
  • Preferred
  • Technical certification or degree
  • Experience working with diagnostic computers
  • Previous experience as a diesel mechanic
