Job Summary:
The Production Manager is responsible for working with the Unit Managers to ensure optimal production levels in assigned units are met and ensure that the company site brand image is being adhered to. This position will also aid in the development and implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures for the Western Hog Operations.
General Responsibilities:
· Contribute to the ongoing production and the future sustainability of the facilities within the company
· Ensure effective planning, direction, coordination, and monitoring of all operational activities is completed
· Provide strong leadership, guidance and mentoring for assigned Unit Managers
· Clearly articulate department mandates, direction, goals and budgets
· Communicate company initiatives and production performance through regular and timely correspondence
· Engage in the development of plans for improvement, coaching and conflict resolution
· Aid in setting production and financial targets for units and communicate information to Unit Managers
· Review production and financial data and make recommendations to Unit Managers
· Directly manage Unit Managers and indirect oversite of barn staff
· Ensure biosecurity rules are enforced and followed
· Perform and/or support Unit Managers with corrective actions, suspensions and terminations with HR
· Approve expenditures at financial limits between $500 to $2500
· Initiate and/or participate in a variety of interdepartmental meetings
· Understand all OH&S regulations, promote safe work procedures, ensure safety compliance and address safety issues with Unit Managers
· Ensure all assigned facilities operate meeting CPE and ACA standards
· Conduct regular barn visits to ensure all staff provide proper care to animals while following the 5 freedoms
· Recognize and troubleshoot production and financial opportunities at assigned units and initiate an improvement plan while utilizing other company resources, if needed
· Other duties as required
Education/Experience Required:
· Preferred – Animal Science Degree or Animal Health Diploma
· 5-7 years prior work experience in a leadership environment in all areas of pork production
· Computer skills – strong comfort level with Excel, PowerPoint, Metafarms, etc.
· Strong personnel, management, leadership and communication (verbal and written) skills
