Grow-Finish Field Technician

Summary: The JR. Grow-Finish Field Representative is responsible for assisting with all daily aspects of wean-to-finish production, including but not limited to day to day care of wean-to-finish pigs, wean pig placement, individual and group medication, nursery and finish load-ins and load-outs, record keeping, and minor facility maintenance. This position requires travel among multiple barn sites with custom wean-to-finish herdspersons.
 
Location: Territories for this position will be primarily in the Little Falls, MN and Perez, MN areas. 
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Care for all nursery and finish pigs
  • Work with and assist contract growers with daily operations
  • Conduct daily chores and administer shots
  • Assis with selection of top quality breeding stock
  • Be able to snare and hold pigs weighing 20 lb. to 350 lb.
  • Walk pens at sites to visually check pigs
  • Assist with load-ins and load-outs of pigs
  • Assist with loading of feeder pigs, breeding stock and market loads 
  • Ensure accurate pig count, pig placement, sorting, and quality control
  • Transport weaner & feeder pigs as needed
  • Perform monthly blood testing of breeding stock
  • Sort and remove non selected breeding stock from pens
  • Assist with washing and super cleans of sites as needed
  • Communicate with Grow/Finish Custom Supervisor and contract growers on a daily basis
  • Complete all paperwork required by WPI for production records & the Paylean-Free program
  • Strictly follow the recommendations of WPI’s biosecurity protocol
  • Assist with minor facility maintenance
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and interpret procedure manuals
  • Effective time management, production and leadership skills
  • Regular, consistent attendance
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
  • Be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation
  • Maintain PQA Plus & TQA certification status
 
Additional Requirements:  
This position requires operating a company vehicle. Any employment offer for this position is contingent upon the review of applicant’s motor vehicle record. A valid Class D license is required. 
 
WPI Will Provide:
              For this position, WPI will provide a company vehicle and phone. 
 
Physical Demands:  
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the farm; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb 4-foot gates, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 50 pounds. Position requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Frequently required to sit, stand, and walk, reach with hands and arms, and communicate.
 
Organizational Relationships:
Reports to Grow/Finish Supervisor.  Interacts closely with Wakefield Pork contract growers, and office staff.
 
Hours:                
Typically, Monday – Friday 6:30 am – 3:30 pm, occasional weekends 
 
Pay and Benefits:   
A wage proposal will be mailed to the applicant offered the position after the interview process. Salary is determined according to applicant’s skill and background of the industry. Full-time employees are eligible for: paid vacation, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, flexible spending account, and 401(k) with match. Wages and salaries are set commensurate with the employee’s skills and experience and in accordance with Wakefield Pork’s wage and benefit policies.
  • $50,000-$65,000 per year
 
Position requires a high level of respect for team members and animals. Must demonstrate communication and time-management skills, as well as the ability to adapt and function effectively in a fast paced, changing environment.
